The Tusculum and Greeneville communities were seeing Red on Friday afternoon when the Cincinnati Reds Caravan made a stop on the Tusculum campus with the announcement of the team’s new Appalachian League affiliate.

The Greeneville Reds will begin play this summer and will be Cincinnati’s rookie-league affiliate and play their home games at Tusculum’s Pioneer Park.

Pioneer Park, the baseball home of the Tusculum Pioneers, also served as the home of the Houston Astros rookie affiliate from 2004-2017.

Tusculum president Dr. James Hurley and board of trustee member Dr. Scott M. Niswonger shared the announcement with a jam-packed board room at the new Meen Center for Science and Mathematics.

“On behalf of the Tusculum family we would like to welcome our friends, the Cincinnati Reds,” said Dr. Hurley. “Today is an important day for our university and for the Greeneville community. We are grateful to all who came out to share in this day with us.”
